Criterion Softwares designchef – Alex Ward – har gæstet CV&G i dag og fortæller mere omkring deres Burnout 3, med fokus på det nye samarbejde, som er kommet i stand med Electronic Arts. De to første Burnout-spil er begge undergrunds-klassikere, men har ikke fået helt fat i mainstream-publikummet endnu. Det vil helt sikkert ændre sig nu, hvor EA’s store apparat bliver lagt bag spillet med fuld kraft. Ward taler også om inspirationskilder og forklarer de designmæssige målsætninger med Burnout 3.
Ward: It’s tough to say… Yeah, I think it is. It’s still an arcade game. It’s definitely more on the arcade side than the simulation side. Everyone knows it’s not going to be a Gran Turismo and it never will be. I suppose it would still be influenced by Sega games if they were still putting them out – you just don’t see many in the arcade now. There’s a bit of Outrun in there, Outrun 1 and 2 – it’s always going to have that vibe really because it’s an arcade game.
