I et interview ved QuakeCon 2018 fortæller Arkane Studios lead designer Richardo Bare til VG24/7, at de lader deres successfulde Dishonored-serie holde en pause.

Arkane Studios er igennem de sidste 12 år blevet synonym med FPS-spil, hvor der bydes på interaktive spilverdener og interessant AI-simulering. Fra Dark Messiah of Might and Magic i 2006 og Bioshock 2 til Dishonored og det seneste Prey, har Arkane Studios gang på gang vist, at de formår at levere solide spil på stribe.

Men nu får deres “største” serie Dishonored en pause. En pause som måske bliver for bestandig.

I can’t say definitively what might happen down the road, anything could happen, but [Dishonored] is resting for now. As far as pure immersive sims go, I don’t know if we’re going to continue to make like carbon copy – this qualifies as an immersive sim and it’s the only thing we’re ever going to make.

The things that are important to us as a studio are coherent, deep world building and environmental storytelling – we’re always going to craft spaces that you feel like you’re visiting, whether it’s Dunwall or Talos 1. It’s just as important a character as the player or the people you meet. Then it’s improvisational gameplay – giving players a bunch of cool abilities and tools, then saying, ‘You figure it out, you be creative, you own the experience’. And, typically, we stick to first-person, though that’s not a hard rule and we might try other things from time to time.

Med to store spil og flere successfulde udvidelser, hvoraf den seneste “Death of the Outsider” leverede en fin afslutning af serien, virker det som et godt tidspunkt at kigge på andre interessante projekter. Hvad håber du, Arkane Studios disker op med, når deres næste projekt bliver afsløret?

  1. Det første Dishonored var rigtig godt og solgte godt.

    Men Dishonored 2 solgt virkelig dårlig og det var vidst nok kun 40% i forhold til det første Dishonored spil. Death of the Outsider solgte endnu dårligere.

    Så kan man godt forstå at man stopper nu.
