If you are experiencing this problem, then first of all please delete the WTF, WDB and INTERFACE folders in your World of Warcraft installation folder, and then retry to start the game.
Blizzard has received many reports about commonly used network cards, which obviously are suffering from this type problem. If you do not know what network card you are using simply follow these steps to find out:
– click on START -> CONTROL PANEL
– click on NETWORK -> NETWORK CONNECTIONS
– right click on your network connection -> PROPERTIES
– your network card model should be visible now in the upper part of the card flagged as ‘General’
For Netgear FA311 network cards:
For most users, downloading and installing the latest Netgear 1.3 driver will solve this problem. If this does not help, please visit Netgear’s website and download the latest driver for your network card.
For network cards that supports “checksum offloading” (hardware check summing):
Those cards that for example do support this are: Intel Pro 100 Series, Marvell Yukon, Broadcom, 3com Cnet and Nvidia nForce 3. When using these cards you should disable this option to solve your connection problem.
– click on START -> CONTROL PANEL
– click on NETWORK -> NETWORK CONNECTIONS
– right click on your network connection -> PROPERTIES
– Click on ‘Configure’ and then on the card flagged as ‘advanced’
– go to the option ‘Checksum Offload’ and disable this option in the window on the right side
– finally click OK to save this configuration and to restart the network interface
Speed- and Duplex Settings:
You can also try to set the network speed and duplex to force it to run 100 Full Duplex. In the past this has solved this type of problem. To do so please follow these instructions:
– click on START -> CONTROL PANEL
– click on PERFORMANCE AND MAINTENANCE -> SYSTEM
– click on HARDWARE -> DEVICE MANAGER
– click the + on the NETWORK ADAPTERS
– right click on your network connection -> PROPERTIES
– Click on ‘Advanced’ and you will see a list with possible options,. One of those should be named ‘Speed and Duplex Configuration’.
– Change this option to ‘Force base 100 Full Duplex’. If you are using an older router / modem, it is possible that you should choose the option ’10 Full Duplex’.
If you are doing these changes within your network setup, you should also delete the WDB folder in your main World of Warcraft installation folder. The origin of the data saved in this folder can sometimes hide the real problem, or can pretend that a problem is not present anymore, depending how the changes were made. This can be very confusing.
Other network cards that can be affected by this problem:
– AN983B Chipset Network Cards of ADMTek (sometimes sold as “Asound” or “Fast” Brand),
Including, but not limited to:
Linksys LNE100TX model 5
Linksys NC 100
Skymaster SK 1207E
Planex FNW-9803-T
The chipset is also built in these motherboards (as well as in others):
MSI (Microstar) MS-6378
DFI NS70-EL & AZ30-EL
USI PM-845
Fujitsu D1451
Most of the customers that have this problem, have managed to resolve it by using ADMTek drivers from:
http://www.infineon.com/cgi/ecrm.dll/ecrm/scripts/prod_ov.jsp?oid=52792
These drivers are certified directly by the chipset manufacturer and Microsoft. Please use these drivers instead of others, for your network card, including the latest driver from Linksys.
The drivers mentioned above have also solved problems with these network cards, such as disconnection issues, unknown entities and other types of crashes.
-Realtek 8139: if your motherboard manufacturer does not provide the latest updated version for your onboard network card, you can download this driver directly at Realtek.
Install the latest driver from Realtek’s homepage:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloads1-3.aspx?series=16&Software=True
After having installed the latest drivers, please change the duplex settings to ‘Full’, as mentioned above, to solve this problem.
By simplifying your connection (e.g. by temporarily unplugging your router and connecting directly to your modem) you can also reveal the source of the problem.
