Hehe SkovPer…
If you are having trouble with your Battle.net connection, here are a few
things you can try:
Click on Start –> Find, and then click on “Files or Folders”, and type
“bncache.dat” in the “named” field. Make sure to include sub folders and
check in your hard drive(s). If you find this temp file, delete it.
Empty your “Recycle Bin” if it is full and restart your computer.
Make sure you are using the latest version of your game. Links to patches
for all Blizzard games can be found on our web site:
http://www.blizzard.com/patches/
Now try connecting to Battle.net.
If these steps above do not correct the problem:
Click on Start, then Run.
Type “regedit” and click Ok.
Click on the + icon beside the “HKey_Local_Machine” branch.
Click on the + icon beside the “Software” branch.
Select the “Battle.net” branch and press the delete key.
Click on the + icon beside the “HKey_Current_User” branch.
Click on the + icon beside the “Software” branch.
Select the “Battle.net” branch and press the delete key.
Finally, try running the Internet Connection Wizard from the setup button
under the Connections tab in the Internet Options Control Panel. Select the
option “I want to set up my Internet connection manually…” and select the
appropriate connection method (dial-up or LAN). Restart your computer and
try connecting again.
Blizzard does not support proxies, firewalls, or routers, so we cannot tell
you specifically what needs to be done in your case. However, the
information below should be enough to help your network administrator change
the security settings to permit the proper UDP access. Keep in mind that
this may not be in your control. You may need to contact your ISP or
network administrator for assistance.
Even if you are not using a proxy or a firewall yourself, your ISP may be
using a proxy or a firewall, or you may be connected to a network that uses
one or both. These applications restrict access to your computer as a
security feature.
Anytime your computer receives incoming data, the data is sent to a “port”.
Your computer has many ports that can receive data, and different activities
will utilize different ports. Battle.net uses port 6112 to establish a
TCP/IP connection. Diablo II uses port 4000 and port 6112. While you are
connected to Battle.net, game data (not chat information) is sent to and
from your computer via UDP (User Datagram Protocol) packets. This is where
the problem comes in:
Most proxy servers and firewalls can restrict port access as well as UDP
access. Your configuration may be restricting UDP packets from “unknown
sources”. In this case an “unknown source” would be defined as any IP
address that you have not initiated the contact with. Once you contact the
IP address, your proxy and/or firewall considers it “safe”, or a “known
source”, since you initiated the contact. When you create a game on
Battle.net, other users need to be able to contact you in order to join. In
other words, they need to be able to initiate the contact. This becomes the
real problem if your connection is restricting them from contacting you…
In some cases, this could be caused by a simple problem with the Battle.net
server that is preventing it from communicating properly with the rest of
the Battle.net network. In case you are connecting to a Battle.net server
that is having trouble, try the following to reset your server list:
Click on “start”, “find”, and then click on “files or folders”, and type in
“bncache.dat” (make sure to include sub folders and check in your hard
drive(s). If you find the file, delete it and if you don’t it’s ok.
The last step is to empty your “Recycle Bin” if it is full and restart your
computer.
