    No Balance Palace

Song By Song From The Album “No Balance Palace”

    Kalifornia.
The 1st track Kasper wrote for the album. Originally intended for inclusion on Zitilites (City Lights) in 2002. The remarkable chord changes came about in Mads’ apartment while the two of them were testing whether they could create a strong recording of an acoustic guitar in his living room. The lyrics don’t refer to California the American state. it’s an abstract hymn to restlessness and love.

    Jewel Drop.
A song to the Jewel that slipped out of your hands while you were too busy concentrating on other, less important things. The album version is the second incarnation of a song which initially had a more raw feel to it. When the band entered the studio with Tony Visconti it was suggested that they revisit the arrangement and eventually a more dreamy and Cure-esque sound emerged. The question is; can you fall back in, once you’ve fallen out of love?

    The Cynic.
A year ago Kasper got to meet David Bowie at a Killers concert in New York and as it turned out Mr Bowie was already aware of Kashmirs music, being the owner of their two previous albums. Six months later when the band had recorded the first demo of The Cynic somebody came up with the wild idea of asking Bowie to sing from the second verse to the end of the track. His reply was brief. “…I would have no problem doing that” The many guitar layers in the song bring out memories of My Bloody Valentine and Smashing Pumpkins.

    Ophelia.
This is the only track on the album that gets close to being a ballad. As in the Shakespeare play, this young girl finds answers to the inexplicable in insanity.

    Diana Ross.
An instrumental track that pays tribute to the singer Diana Ross. Throughout the album Henrik worked with a selection of noise-samples and keyboard patterns to create an atmospheric foundation for the songs. In most places it is not tangible but in this track it stands out as a flickering drone.

The Curse of being a Girl.
One of the last songs to be written for the album and the first single to hit the radios. A relatively simple pop track that deals with the theme of silent girl-fights taking place across the table at dinner parties.

    She’s made of Chalk.
The melody of this song had been brewing in Kasper’s head since the bands first Scandinavian tour in 2000. “Back then everyone thought that it was too bluesy, so I kept it until the time was right. Once we found the musical foundation of it, the song wrote itself in 20 minutes” says Kasper and adds that this is his favourite song on the album. It’s a soothing rock‘n’roll experience that takes the Kashmir sound to new places.

    Ether.
“It’s too easy to go crazy, way much harder to stay clear. Though you’re pleading; come save me. No one or nothing comes near.” An ethereal song with a sound that perfectly matches the title.

    Snowman.
Snowman features bass player Mads Tunebjerg on guitar. It was recorded live in one take, as with most of the tracks on the album. The tail of guitar noise that fades down in the end of the song initially continued for more than twenty five minutes, which allowed Mr. Visconti to have his lunch break and still be able to come back and catch the end of it.

    Black Building.
When Kashmir mixed the album at Looking Glass Studio in New York City, Asger and Kasper were resident at the Sohotel in Chinatown while Henrik and Mads stayed at a rented flat in Midtown. Each morning when A & K walked to the studio they passed a mysterious black building on the corner of Elisabeth and Spring St. Kasper decided to write a poem about it, imagining what was inside. Lou Reed was asked to recite the poem for the album and to everyones surprise he said yes. After recording Lou Reed, Tony and the band began excavating for the most suitable guitar layer to support Lou’s voice. They found a section in the earlier mentioned noise-tail of Snowman which fitted perfectly.

    No Balance Palace.
The title track of the album. Kashmir’s A Day In The Life. A song that consists of three different sections. A song that in many ways sums up the themes of the whole album: Love, death and the decline of western civilization.

Du kan næsten gætte til hvor jeg har det fra og måske det ville ha været en ide for dig at starte på deres hjemmeside?
